W Bro McBain and Bro. Robinson were members of a team of 20 who took part in an adventurous sponsored walk to Base Camp Everest to raise money for World Development and Relief Fund of the Methodist Church in Ireland. The team, comprised of 13 men and 7 women, together raised over 36,000 Euro for projects supported by the church at home and in Nepal. W Bro McBain, who celebrated his 70th birthday in August 2014 was the oldest member of the team, the youngest being a 23 year old male student from Trinity College, Dublin. Shortly after the brethren returned to Ireland an unseasonal blizzard struck a party of trekkers on the Anapurna trail just west of Base Camp with the loss of 39 lives.
