W Bro Gilbert was initiated into masonry on 17th May 1967, he passed to the Fellowcraft on 19th June 1967 and was raised to Master Mason on 2nd October 1967. He was Worshipful Master in 1980 and installed his successor the late WBro. Ray Shannon. With the exception of one year WBro Gilbert has installed every Worshipful Master of Unity ML No. 396 since then, a total of 35. A very dedicated Mason and faithful member of his Lodge, who has rarely missed a lodge communication over the past 50 years. In 2011 the Provincial Grand Master bestowed upon him the rank of Hon. Past Provincial Grand Senior Deacon in recognition for his work for the Lodge. RWBro. Maurice Lee, PGM, accompanied by RWBro Stanley Whittle PAGM, presented W Bro Gilbert with his 50 Year Jewel and Certificate.

Afterwards Brethren and guests were entertained to light refreshments in an adjoining room.
